Self and Peer Assessment

A critical dimension of developing the skills to become a professional educator is the ability to critically assess our own performance as a teacher, as well as accept the valuable advice of our peers. This however can be a difficult and confronting task, as it often involves making or accepting difficult or unwelcome assessments of our professionalism.

What can be useful in developing our sense of professional practice, that is our self-assessment, are questionnaires which force us to systematically reflect on our actions and inactions. From this form of self-assessment, we can then begin to investigate what professional development strategies may assist us to improve our teaching.
